Across the world, people are faced with a wealth of new and challenging environmental problems. Some of them are small and only affect a few ecosystems, but others are drastically changing the landscape of what we know daily. Yet people are still dumping their trash everywhere without any concern for our environment.

The new challenge currently trending on social media went viral all over the world, is thought to have started by the outdoor gear company UCO Gear in 2015. Recently a post by Byron Román on Facebook ignited the challenge again when he encouraged the bored youth to get out and clean up their community.

The #trashtag challenge encourages people to pick up litter on the roadsides, beaches, and parks, taking before and after photos of the area they cleaned up.

Major worries of our environmental issues that should be dealt with immediately are:

Waste Disposal: Most of us do our part by throwing our trash in garbage bins, yet we still have landfills to consider.

Public Health: Pollution in the air and our water is playing a significant role in our well being.

Loss of Biodiversity: Biodiversity is the threats to deforestation and climate change, which affects our ecosystem. The ecosystem has a boomerang effect on our water sources and our food chain.

Let’s hope that was not a once off challenge. We should all be making a difference and focus on taking care of their community for future generations and others.
